Charleston, Mount Pleasant Make List for Top 50 Cities to Raise a Child
The Lowcountry is no stranger to the national spotlight. It's been a fan favorite in the media time and time again, including this summer when Charleston was voted the #1 city in the U.S. As if we needed any more reason to love this place, a new report has listed two Lowcountry cities among some of the best places to raise a child.
On November 13, 2017 the National Council for Home Safety and Security issued a report of 100 best cities to raise a child in the U.S. South Carolina claimed two spots: Mount Pleasant was number 50 for best cities in the U.S., with Charleston preceding it as the 49th best city to raise a child in the U.S. The study analyzed major influences such as health insurance, crime rates, graduation rates, and median income.
The National Council for Home Safety and Security is a national trade association that includes licensed related trades such as alarm installers and contractors. The alliance conducts relevant research and produces their findings in articles and reports on their official website, Alarms.org.
Prefacing the unassuming report, the Council made clear their understanding that a child's mental and physical maturity is highly influenced by additional factors not as easily examined. Such factors include psychological well-being, culture, parenting style, and even climate.
